Pat Mesiti – Soaring Higher Pat Mesiti International Motivational Speaker gives you principles to soar higher!
Your strength is in your struggle and your power is in your pain You’ve probably heard the saying "no pain, no gain". Growth always causes pain. Do you realise that your muscles will only grow as they tear? When you exercise your muscles, especially those you don’t normally use, you will most likely feel sore in those muscles a day or two later. That’s because, in using those muscles, you have actually torn them. The tearing will cause you some pain, but your muscles will end up with a greater capacity for strength. The next time you see a power lifter lifting heavy weights, just imagine the years of pain he had to go through to be able to lift that weight. This principle also applies to our character. People with real strength of character are those who have overcome many hardships. The situations we struggle with and overcome can give us strength over time. We all know people who seem to have everything going well for them and everything they do has a silver lining. But often we don’t know how they reached that stage of success. Success is never instant, it is built over time. Nelson Mandela is a great example of someone who grew in stature as a result of many years of hardship. He went through an incredible struggle, yet out of that struggle grew strength, and he went on to become a great leader. His power came out of his pain. A little old lady called Mother Teresa influenced a lot of powerful people to help her relieve suffering in India. Where did she get that power? It came from years of struggling to help the poor. Her power came out of her pain. A few years ago Michael Jordan played in the NBA finals even though he was injured. During that game, he actually grabbed his own personal best records. You see, champions learn to play in pain. Endurance cyclist Lance Armstrong to date has won five Tour de Frances. But his successes are even more incredible when you realise his cycling days – let alone his life – could have ended when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He beat that cancer, got back in the saddle, and rode on to win more Tour de Frances. Today he is revered because people know his strength is in his struggle and his power is in his pain. We often look at people who are successful and we think,“Well they haven’t really been through much pain.”Unfortunately,we tend to look at the instant poll or the snapshot of their lives at that point in time. We notice their nice cars, their great achievements, and their comfortable homes, but we don't see the pain that actually got them there. You are most likely struggling with real issues right now. But guess what! Your current struggles are going to strengthen you. Your strength is in your struggle and your power is in your pain. In fact, your current struggles are going to give you credibility when you overcome them and begin to share your story with others. If there had been no struggle, there would be no story. If there had been no pain, there would be no victory. When two opposing football teams face each other, there is a struggle for an hour or two. At the final whistle, the players stop and walk off the field in pain. But when does victory become sweetest? Victory is sweetest when the struggle has been fierce. An easy win is rarely sweet. When one football team annihilates the opposition, few people declare, "Oh what a brilliant display, what a game!" The same principle applies to relationships and to businesses. Relationships that don't go through struggles never get strengthened. Businesses that don't go through struggles never get strengthened. A life that doesn't go through struggles never gets strengthened. M. Scott Peck says, 'It is only because of problems that we grow mentally, and spiritually.’ Through the pain of confronting and resolving problems we learn. My great friend Ray Andrews said, 'All is not lost, but all is recoverable - find the positive'. Challenge Look for the positives. No matter how painful a situation, understand that something positive can come out of it. Where does your strength and power come from? It comes from your pain. So what is it that is causing you pain right now? Remember, your struggles are going to strengthen you.
